In ihrer Verfassung und in ihrer Liturgie kombiniert die anglikanische Kirche katholische und protestantische Elemente. In Schottland ist die Established Church die Church of Scotland, eine Presbyterian Church - presbiterianische Kirche, die im 16. Jh. von dem kalvinistischen Reformator John Knox stark beeinflusst wurde.
